Excerpts From Half-Earth: Our Planet’s Fight for Life

  1. Prof. Wilson fails to consider the strong liklihood of catastrophic populations losses in the latter half of this century due to war, pandemics, failed migrations, economic collapse, etc., as climate catastrophes take an increasing toll and and fossil fuels themselves become far more expensive, in addition to other major ecological and resource impacts (to oceans, fresh water, agricultural lands, some minerals, etc.)

In addition, he does not note that women’s education has been the best birth control precisely because of the opportunity for development offered by cheap energy. As that opportunity decreases, the k dynamic will begin to revert to the r dynamic to make up for population losses, complicating all the demographic projections even more.
